LUFTHANSA TECHNIK To Host Hangar Open House At Frankfurt – Register Now!

In association with Frankfurt Airport, Lufthansa Technik will be hosting an open house in one of their cavernous hangars at Frankfurt Airport on November 24 from 6:00p to 8:30p (local FRA time).     The specific hangars that will be open are the hangars on the north side of the airport, nearest the passenger terminals.   It is here where most of the Frankfurt-based fleet is serviced including the A330, A340, Boeing 747-400 and 747-8i, along with the narrow body Airbuses.

In order to attend you have to register in advance by sending an email to team@ja-zu-fra.org .  Space is limited so not every registration will be accepted.

In the email, please provide your first and last name, date and location of birth as well as your current address.

According to the conditions, attendees must be at least 16 years old.   Due to the nature of the hangars, persons with disabilities or who have trouble with mobility will not be able to attend.

The deadline to register is November 6 at midnight (local FRA time).   Successful applicants will be notified on November 7.

LUFTHANSA Christmas Market Fares: Chicago To Munich Only $525…Frankfurt $535

LUFTHANSA Christmas Market Fares: Chicago To Munich Only $525…Frankfurt $535

Lufthansa has published what are perhaps the lowest fares I’ve ever seen between Chicago and Frankfurt or Munich.    The economy fares coincide with the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and run into mid-December.   This lines up PERFECTLY with the opening of the Holiday Market season throughout Germany and the rest of Europe.

The best fare that I could find was a $525 deal between Chicago and Munich.   Frankfurt was next at only $535.   The rest of Germany and Europe were are priced at their typical $800-1200 range but with some creative booking, you can book separate tickets to take you deeper into Europe for far less.   Valid travel dates for this deal are between November 22 and December 15.

The catch with these fares is that a 7 day stay is required but there is no weekend travel blackout for the deals.  In other words the fares are not higher if your flights take place Thursday through Sunday.   There’s no end date to this fare sale.  It’s one of those ‘while supplies lasts’ kind of offers.

The fares are valid for travel on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Air Canada, and United so you have plenty of flexibility as far as carriers are concerned.   As long as your travel originates in Chicago you can fly on any of these carriers and benefit from this low fare.

LUFTHANSA Reducing Shanghai Service During August

LUFTHANSA Reducing Shanghai Service During August

Lufthansa announced today that it will temporarily reduce service between Frankfurt and Shanghai during the month of August.

Specifically, flight LH732 from Frankfurt and LH733 from Shanghai will not operate between August 1 and August 28.  This service is the one flown by the 747-400 aircraft.

The remaining Frankfurt/Shanghai flights, LH728 and LH729 (operated by the A380) are not affected by this announcement.

Lufthansa and Frankfurt Bring Airport Shopping To Lounges

Lufthansa and Frankfurt Bring Airport Shopping To Lounges

To make it even easier for you to leave your Euros behind when traveling, Lufthansa and Frankfurt Airport have teamed to make shopping even easier.

As of now, passengers who visit most of LH’s lounges inside Terminal 1 will be able to use lounge iPads to shop virtually all of the stores located at the airport.   If you purchase anything, it will be delivered to you at the lounge within 30 minutes.   From what I gathered this program will not be available in the First Class Terminal, which has its own dedicated shop.

During the first quarter of this year, the program will continue to expand to provide other options as well.   For example the next phase of the program will allow passengers to use iPads located at check-in areas where they will be able to order food from the airport’s various restaurants and have the meal brought to them at their departure gate so that the meal can be enjoyed during the flight.

Another expansion of the program in the near future will allow you to shop while aboard long haul flights and have your order waiting for you at your gate when you de-plane.  I suspect that this may be expanded to medium and short haul flights once all the aircraft are upgraded to the same inflight entertainment and communication systems.
