Earlier this week, Lufthansa announced an update to its timetable that reduces both service and capacity on flights between Dusseldorf and the US.
The biggest change is the conversion of Dusseldorf – Chicago to a seasonal route. Going forward, the route will only be flown during the summer and will be suspended between October 25, 2015 and March 26, 2016.
Additionally, a capacity change has been made between Dusseldorf and Newark (EWR). Beginning October 25, the route will be flown by an A330-300 aircraft, replacing the A340-300 that currently flies the route.
I suspect more adjustments like this to be coming in the near future as Lufthansa tweaks its Winter 2015/16 timetable and aircraft assignments.

The Porsche deal for First Class passengers is back! This time Munich is included!
If you are traveling on a Lufthansa or Swiss First Class ticket and have a 4+ hour layover, you can arrange to rent a Porsche 911 or Panamera for 3 hours and take a tour of Munich and her surrounds or try your hand at the Autobahn in and around Frankfurt and see if you can keep up with traffic.
To book the car, all you need to do is let the First Class Lounge or Terminal assistant who meets you know that you want to rent the Porsche and they will make arrangements. You can also make the reservation yourself ahead of time. Booking it yourself in advance is advisable since it increases the odds that a vehicle will be available.
As part of the program, Porsche has created several itinerary options for you to choose from to maximize your experience.
The rate for a 3 hour rental is €99 which covers 150km (93 miles), fuel and insurance. If you go over the allotted mileage, you’ll be charged € .99 per additional km. You can also rent the car for the day for only €303.00 which will also give you 200km to use during that time.
To learn more about the program or to book your ride, visit the Lufthansa ‘Porsche Rental’ webpage.

The union representing over 19,000 of Lufthansa’s Cabin Crew has once again drawn a line in the sand with threats of new strikes.
Earlier today, the union announced that unless a labor deal is reached by June 30, Cabin Crews would go on strike beginning July 1. They also posed a veiled threat suggesting numerous daily strikes until September 16, designed intentionally to cripple LH during the very busy summer holiday travel season.
The core of the problem comes from a long-drawn out battle over retirement age and pension benefits. With interests so low, pension programs are under strain and Lufthansa simply wants their crews to contribute more to their retirement programs in order to preserve an early retirement age of 55.
The union thinks that the employees shouldn’t take on the increased responsibility for their own future but yet offer no constructive alternatives to their strategy of ‘gimmee, gimmee, gimmee’.

In a ceremony that took place earlier this week as part of the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, Lufthansa Group came away with 5 Skytrax awards for a variety of categories.
Austrian took home 2 awards:
Best Business Class On Board Catering …… thanks to their popular ‘Do&Co’ catering along with on board chefs and a dedicated Viennese Coffee service on long haul flights.
‘Best Airline Staff in Europe’ ……thanks in large part to OS’ flight crews and ground agents.
Lufthansa took home 3 awards:
‘Best Transatlantic Airline’ …… due primarily to the near-complete rollout of the new business class and the introduction of Premium Economy along with several US routes being served by new 747-8i an A380 aircraft along with wide availability of inflight WiFi through FlyNet.
‘World’s Best First Class Lounge’ …… no surprise here, it’s impossible to beat Frankfurt’s First Class Terminal.
‘Best Airline In Western Europe’ ……. new aircraft along with enhanced inflight entertainment systems made it easy to capture this category.
The results were tabulated after receiving votes from over 18 million passengers in 160 countries. 200 Airlines were eligible for voting in various categories in their home markets and the markets they serve.

Got your attention didn’t it…..
Anyway, Lufthansa’s First Class Services has confirmed that the traditional Yellow Duck has been retired.
No longer will the yellow quacker go home with First Class Lounge and Terminal visitors as a souvenir from Frankfurt.
However, passengers will be given a sleek new silver version instead 🙂

The yellow duck is retired…..
The reason for the change is based on the fact that for the last 10+ years the standard duck has always been yellow and the feeling is that most of LH’s HONs have quite a collection of them.
This change applies only to Frankfurt at this time. Munich will continue with its current duck ‘strategy’.
What does this mean to special editions of the duck for Holidays and Special Events? You’ll have to wait and see!
It also means that your yellow ducks have become that much more valuable…….
